Step By Step Dragon Eggs

Start off with a cream painted rock. Egg shaped is best but any large round-ish rock should work. Sketch out the jagged edges so you know where you are working.

Add a nice big round eye. We'll shape it in a bit.

Mark where you want the top and bottom eye lid to be. This gives it the eye shape. I also mark in where I want the pupil to be.

Basic color work. My paints are super cheap so typically I will need several coats. This actually works in my favor as I blend colors

Second coat and I start focusing on the color blending of the eye. I also color in where I want the browbone to be and color that in a different color.

Third color should finish off the coloring in and shadings.

Now I give shading to the browbone and color in the points of the jagged egg black fading it into the skin color. This is to make it look like shadows, that there is more of the dragon farther in the egg. Logically it doesn't make sense, I mean if the eye is that big there's no ROOM in the egg for the rest of the beast. To that I say...I don't care. It's magic and it's how I wanna do it. *sticks out tongue in a very immature way*

Time for some thick line details. I give the browbone some large scale details and tiny circles makes the scales on the skin. A little detail I find fun is a metallic eye liner.

Thin detailing pens are great for adding the cracks in the egg. I also go around the metallic eyeliner. A couple light spots to help sell the idea of glossy eyes. Seal it to protect the paint and you're done!

Dragon Eggs

In my town I'm best known for my Dragon Eye rocks. I admit, I'm awfully proud of how they turn out. I've made several in all different colors and I'm planning a tutorial on just how I make them.

Frog

Simple little frog. One of the first rocks I did. I kinda wanted to do something more like a colorful tree frog, but this is what happened. I'll prolly make more with the tree frogs.

Black Feather

My white paint pen kept dripping and making a gloopy mess. I'll try again later with better pens.

Little Boulder

I love this pun! If a rock were gonna give you advice this would so be it!! I've been looking for more puns like this but none have make me laugh as much. So far I've only used it once, but as one of my fav rock sayings, I will paint it again.

Rosebud

It doesn't look so bad from this angle, does it? This rock I wasn't paying much attention to. I was so focused on getting the shaded colors right, that I messed up the whole top of the flower.

Easier to see from this angle, the curly bit that makes it look like a bud should have covered the whole top of the flower, not just the awkward one side. I can pretend it a petal just starting to open, but it does look off. I hope whoever finds it, likes it anyway.

Turtle

My sister once had a tiny turtle, bout the size of a bottle cap. I loosely based this turtle on Rascal. He didn't have the blue on his back, but I do remember the red stripes on the sides of his head. It was hard to get a good picture of this rock as the design wrapped around the rock.

Hidden by a large rock on an island park.

Koi

A simple early piece I did. My sister likes Koi and Catfish so I made it with her in mind. I even hid it by a small reflection pond in my town. Wish the pond had Koi in it, but it will do.

BW Cat

Here's another rock I saw on Pintrest and just had to try it myself. It also happens to be the first rock I hid this year. I was hoping to do more in different colors, and I might still, but as of now its the only one I've done.

Pokemon

I saw these guys on Pintreset and knew exactly where I would hide them. There is a group of flags, a memorial park, that Pokemon players are at ALL THE TIME! I mean, ever sense the game released over a year ago there has been Lure Mods on those Pokestops the WHOLE TIME! So I had to make these and hide them in that small park hoping that Pokemon Go! players would find them.

The last time I looked, only Bulbasaur (the green one) had been found.

Log Cabin and Tent

These 2 were kind of a commission. My parents are going to a historical village museum a couple towns over and wanted an old tent with a campfire and a large log cabin rock. Simple enough, tho I did play with a little bit of shadowing under the tent. All this was done with brushes and acrylic paints. I have since gotten some cheap pens to help with lining things, but my brush work really isn't all that bad on these I think.
